Reply To: How often should I replace my brush?
To extend the life of the brushes, wash them with natural olive soap or glycerin soap, which do not contain chemical detergents.
Brushes become brittle when losing their natural fat, so it is recommended to use gum arabic or other similar substance, to maintain shape, flexibility and durability. I’ve heard of people who wet them in milk because casein can help.
If the brush is really damaged it is recommended to apply a “Brush Recover”, and wrap the body of the brush on silk paper for a week, in a warm place (but not very hot, never near a heater or stove).
The main western brush factories (I think also in the eastern ones), market the Restorers for daily use, and the Recuperators for extreme cases. #BrushGrade #BrushQuality. #OldBrush #ReplaceBrush

We have stopped supplying liquid paint to some countries. Therefore, we recommend you to order natural pigments (colour chips). These are natural colours extracted from rocks/ plants.
The ingredients for the Chinese art materials are different from oil paints. The seal paste does not include leads. 🙂
However, please pay attention to our toxicity labelling. The natural pigments are not all safe to use and we do not recommend them to children. For example, cinnabar is a very common chemical used in Chinese art. #ChineseColourPaint #ChinesePainting

Regarding your questions, there is one reply on facebook:
Shǒu Bì Qiáng Zhuàng Personally I hate Customs. They drill horrible annoying holes in my Brushes, gun barrels, ornaments… everything. Drilled holes just in case I’m smuggling heroin into the country and everything I buy is deformed like this. No exceptions.
You would think they’d use a tiny 1m/m drill? No. Its a stonking great 5m/m hole. Sick society.
On top of that they charge me, as in the last case, £70:00ukp $120:00usd extra for my ink stone from inkston.com.
UK. Regarding paints in tubes, no issues in the UK yet. Liquid inks are allowed and so are paint chips. That or they got through customs unnoticed. If I label a parcel I just write “Art Materials”.
If you write “PAINTS” they will assume its a tin or a great big bottle of liquid and question and stop.

Please use chips (natural pigments). You can control the ink by adding/ extracting glue from it.
As for ink from inkstick, the left-over ink is called ‘su ink’. This has special effects and are used to create special purposes. We once interviewed one Chinese artist who followed Huang BinHong’s style and uses a lot of Su Ink painting techniques. You might be interested:
There are differences between fresh-made ink and overnight ink. 🙂 Both are great for creating unique effects. You might want to do some experiments yourself with your papers/ techniques/ brushes. I would recommend you also prepare some natural glue:

I would like to reserve several colors of ink (chips or inksticks) left over at the end of the working day, from one day to the next. Should I add some additive to the ceramic container to maintain consistency the next day? Is there any way to preserve the ink for days without compromising quality?
many thanks!

I have seen that some pigments have toxicity labeling.
For example, in oil painting, they do not send pigments to my country that contain lead in their recipe … and I wonder if the same thing happens with inks.
Is there a problem in the customs when crossing the borders of the country?
Is it possible to buy a bottle of chips, or inksticks or, depending on the country, should I take the box of pre-mixed colors?
Many thanks!

you mean to put the stamp in the same position in different sheets? I believe that you can create a system similar to the centering of the sheets in the technique of engraving, to obtain the impression of many sheets in the same position.
in that case, maybe you can build a frame in cardboard … #Mats #PaintingMat #Seal

It seems too dry already. She can add a bit oil into it. Check this article:
This might be complicated. If it is still not working properly, I would recommend her to buy a refill.
Avoid using metal for the seal paste. I think wood might be fine. #SealPaste

Reply To: Purchase brushes
For me, different brushes have their own special functions. For example, fine line brush made with weasel hair is mostly useful for small details while other brushes could hardly function the same way. For me, I always keep a simple but useful set of brushes, which include weasel hair brush, wool brush, and combination hair brush. There is one article on inkston about how to select proper brushes. I think you might find it helpful!

I’d say any hair is probably going to work, and the choice ultimately depends on your technique and personal preference.
Personally, I’ve used both Western and Chinese brushes to paint Western watercolor. The Western brushes I use the most are squirrel and sable hair, plus the occasional ox hair brush for lifting. Of the Chinese brush hair types, goat hair compares to squirrel, being soft and absorbent. The biggest difference is that Chinese brushes have a more or less sharp tip, while the Western soft brush is usually a blunt mop/wash type. The Chinese “wolf” hair brush roughly corresponds to the Western sable brush, at least if we’re comparing good ones. A pure wolf brush is not really stiff or hard, just a bit elastic. Again, the tip of a Chinese brush is sharp, while Western sable brushes come in many shapes. I haven’t really used the very stiff and coarse hairs, but they might work for dry brush techniques. Ask yourself what you would like to paint.

How do you guys digitalize your artworks?
Like if they are as small as an A4-format it is possible to scan them but what with bigger works?
Plus the Xuan-paper makes it difficult, I use blanco-paper behind it but I often can still see the wrinkles 🙁
Can you please share any ideas on this? Thanks! #DigitalizeArtwork #ScanArtwork

Become an artist and sell works – howto?
Hello, recently I have been wondering what the story was behind your artist-being. Just to get a bit of an idea how such life looks like.
When did you decide to sell your works and how did you do that? Did you decide to stay with a certain style or did you discover you had a style? Was it because people said your works are good or did you decide yourself – that you are an artist?
As for someone I know aswell, any tips on how to bring artist work to the public? Is online more convenient nowadays or still old-school exhibition?
Give me any tips that seem usefull 🙂 #BecomeArtist #SellWorks
