孙岩 SunYan demonstrates some techniques for using damp paper to create effects for 山水 ShanShui landscape painting:
- first spray the paper
- use a second piece of xuan paper as blotting paper to soak off excess moisture
- turn over and blot again the other side
- using very dilute ink and JianHao brush to paint the rocks onto the damp paper
- a little darker now for the peak of the mountain
- we can also shade in a larger area, here we can use an old brush for this. Really the paper is too we just now but it dries quickly. As the ink dries we can add another layer of effect.
- now to speed up the drying we are using a hairdryer to dry this layer
- now we can add the details on top of the background shading
I’m just using cheap mounting paper in this example, with higher quality paper we will get a better natural change of colour, this is not a good quality paper for painting.
