About Inkston

I have been using Inkston for the past few months and I must say the overall service is excellent. I receive the products ordered in roughly the expected time, i.e. about two months or a bit less (I live in Milan, Italy). People are always available for any query that you receive immediately or in less than 24 Hrs.

I have ordered some liquid paints in glass jars that I have started using and they seem fine. They are loaded with pigments and you need very little to get the right hue and intensity. One jar out of ten leaked because of airplane pressure variation, but they promptly gave me a refund.

I’d strongly suggest Inksone  both for the quality of their products and their service.

Old Chinese Ink Sticks

I have been given this box containing old Chinese ink sticks. Please can someone advise whether they are valuable and if so how much are they worth. I am new to calligraphy so have no idea. Therefore this may be a naive question but I need to learn. Thank you

Format for poetry in Calligraphy?

Is there a classic, “standard” way to do a calligraphy piece that uses either a whole poem or a few line(s) of a poem?

Some poems are so famous that I suppose a line or two quoted need not even be cited on the piece. Much of the calligraphy I’ve seen from history uses one of the two general following formats:

1. The title and author name of the poetry is the first vertical line on the right, followed going to left the poem (or quoted lines) themselves, then the calligrapher’s name and seal in the last vertical line.
2. The poem or lines from the poem are arranged vertically, right to left, then the author of the poem is shown, and below that is the calligrapher’s name, seal and sometimes date.

Does anyone know of a generally accepted format for doing this kind of quote in calligraphy? I know that if I’m doing this for myself it could be a lot of different ways, but I like tradition. : )
