Reply To: Preparation of palm fibre brush

The information given by member Charlesrtsua is really useful.  I have a pretty good quality palm fibre brush, but it is exactly as he says in terms of the stiffness and need to clean.  I was able to confidently remove the bottom line of stitching which made the brush way too stiff, then used his trimming idea and then sandpaper to refine some of the coarseness of the fibres.  I am now gently boiling it in salt water, after an initial boil with baking soda.  It is amazing how much of the purple-red colour has come out with the soda-boiling water mix.  And it is easy to see all the dirt or dust coming out when the stitching is removed and from using the sandpaper.

I am glad I saw this information first, because no one told me this when I first bought the brush.  And it would have ruined my delicate papers if I tried to use an unprepared brush for mounting.

Bravo Inkston for having this excellent Forum – and thanks to those who are generous in sharing their experiences with tools and materials!

Wonderful Red Star XL Brush

Hello,

I just wanted to say that I am so happy with my large Red Star “Pro Jing Zhua Yang Hao XL” wool brush!

A tip that if you buy one, be very patient and diligent to remove the starch from the brush. It will take several hours of gentle removal from a brush that large.

I am also thrilled to receive the surprise of paper samples in the elegant lotus print Inkston folder.  It is a treasure.

Thank you so much to Yan who was of great assistance.  I will post a picture of some work with this brush soon!

Heather

New Seal Paste in package

Hello all:

I recently purchased a package of the wonderful dark red seal paste – Xiling Brand Refill 30 g in bag. I am just wondering whether it is ready to use or do I need to stir it? Or prepare it somehow?  It is very ‘gummy’ or sticky, so using it with a stone seal is the only way – it does not seem to be easy to use.

Any thoughts about this?

Thank you!

Reply To: How often should I replace my brush?

I think when you use the inkston brushes right you can use them for along time. Clean after use, with cold water, gentle put the hairs in shape with your vingers or paper towl. Then let the brush hang to drye. #OldBrush #ReplaceBrush

Dear kalpamaclachlan,

Thank you very much for this nice dog! 🙂 Unfortunately, this year’s dog painting competition finished last month already. Otherwise, we would be very happy to include it in this competition. Hope to see your painting in our next competition!

Reply To: How often should I replace my brush?

I read that when you use a brush you have to let it rest, you don´t have to use the same brush every day. #OldBrush #ReplaceBrush
