Reply To: 2019 Year of the Pig Competition – Professional

40×30 cm. Detailed Style. Pigs show affection by grooming each other. They greet each other by rubbing noses and enjoy hanging out together, sunbathing, playing and listening to music. They are extremely social animals. With this painting I wanted to express that even we may have different backgrounds, even we may speak different languages and have divergent traditions, we are still the same.

Reply To: Cleaning inkstone

Soaking indeed can help the old ink come off, and at any rate will not do any harm. I use a piece of loofah sponge for daily cleaning. It’s coarse enough to scrub off leftover ink, yet does not hurt the stone.

I also have the mud block from Inkston. The quality is all right, I haven’t met with any nasty surprises (coarse sand). I find that it can be used to “reopen” the surface of the stone when it has lost its cutting ability, but normally you don’t want to do this all the time. By the way, I don’t exactly see why you could not use it on a round stone – you can always make a paste of the mud with water and polish with it.

If the stone is scratched or otherwise damaged, you can polish the surface using sandpaper, gauge depending on type of stone and desired result. The problem with sandpaper is that it wears the soft and hard parts of the stone equally, leaving a smooth surface with no cutting ability whatsoever. Grinding again with the mud block can help. However scary it sounds, you can even try an abrasive kitchen cleaner that contains milled calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is 3 on the Mohs scale, which will leave intact the hard components of the inkstone. The kind used in kitchen products can be a little coarse, though.

Some new inkstones, usually low or mid-range ones, are sold waxed or just plain unfinished, in which case they too will benefit from sandpaper treatment. #HowToCleanInkstone

Reply To: Pigments

Unfortunately, I came so late to make some colors and it is easier than I thought. 🙂

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOQOigwRZR8

I went after this instruction.

I have resolved too much gelatin, because it may be too fluid for me.
No problem I used less glue and added some water.

I do not know why, but my colors glitter a bit. ???
I used pure pigments from Kremer.

Yellow ocher light, golden ocher, green earth and Venetian red I made.

The gold ocher was too orange for me, then I made yellow ocher color.
Is it really normal, if I want to use the color again, that I have to warm up the color briefly?

So I can use it, otherwise dissolves very little color. #NaturalPigments

Reply To: I search very high quality paper

I once bought a few papers from this online shop, and they have no lines in it.

Most paper there is half glued. I in your place would glue the paper itself.

Reply To: Inkston initial brush #4 vs Inkston 0903WsWl Combination brush

Hello assortedlives,

Like Yan explained the brushes are similar but from a different grade. As a beginner you might want to not spend too much money on a brush but still have a decent brush – that’s the Initial #4.
When you are on a level where you want to invest in a good brush, the 0903WsWl brush is a good one.

Compare it with like buying a t-shirt. You need a new tshirt but you decide if you want a good one for a okay price or you want a good (to better one) for a more expensive price. It’s still just a tshirt only the materials and work put into it can differ.

Hope this helped you, if not please let me know 🙂 #ChinesePaintingBrush #CombinationBrush #WhiteCloudBrush

Reply To: Can brushes be stored long term in a roll?

Yes, they can. This will not harm the brush, as long as the hair is in order and not pointing in all directions or stuck between the strips.

Holy moses…. BUY ONE AND FIND OUT.   🙂

I could tell you that each hair bristle is approximately 0.3m/m with an average ratio broadness of about 0.2-1.03% across the perimeter of the base but……………………….
By the end of understanding the brushes properties you’d be an engineer…. not an artist.

Difference between

What is the difference between the Inkston 0903WsWl GuFa Xiao BaiYun “Traditional White Cloud” Jian Hao Combination Brush and the Red Star BaiYun White Cloud JianHao Brushes? I have a Inkston 0903WsWl small but I’m thinking about returning it to get a either a set of the Red Star White cloud brushes or the Inkston Initial brushes. Do you think there is a big difference between the three? Do they all hold a point well?
